Trending on Twitter now is #LastTimeTrumpPaidTaxes. It is that special kind of trend that manages to leave one angry and in stitches at the same time.

Yesterday evening, the New York Times reported that, Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, could have avoided paying taxes for nearly two decades. Essentially, Trump’s tax evasion that has been a major topic of discourse and an extra point in favour of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, might have been legally okay. What an arse, the law!

According to the report, a $916 million income tax loss declared by Trump in 1995 could have given him a tax deduction so substantial “it could  have allowed him to avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years”.

The reaction of Americans to this revelation is the perfect mix of humour and contained outrage. Nigerians need to learn how to do this.
