A few weeks ago, the fishing settlement of Otodo Gbame was razed by the Lagos state government and about 4,700 persons lost their home in one night. This was done without due notice issued to the residents, neither were alternative housing arrangements made for the affected persons. This was also done in defiance of a standing court order prohibiting Lagos state government from undertaking those demolitions.
Governor Ambode has made it quite clear that he is interested in making Lagos a mega city, and if history is anything to go by, then sooner than later, we might hear that Otodo Gbame has been turned into a high brow are.
Tunde Leye thinks the governor is getting things wrong by excluding the poor, time and again from his agenda.
