There is an ongoing drama at the NASS theatre starring Hameed Ali, the Nigerian Customs boss, Dino Melaye and other members of the Senate. We are not just starstruck, we have been held spellbound. What is the cause of the drama?
Comptroller-General Ali decided that all motorists must produce evidence of import duty paid on cars bought before 2015. So the Senate directed that he approach the bench and explain himself- in his prestigious Customs uniform.
And so began the series of back and forths we have been witnessing:
S: You must appear before us
A: Okay
S: You must wear your uniform
A: Make me
S: We will arrest you
A: Appears before S
S: Where is your uniform?
A: Your last letter did not say I should wear it
S: You must wear it next appointment
A: In your dreams
Nigerians are divided over Hameed’s actions. Some believe the Senate is leaving the main issue to go chasing leke leke rainbows. Others feel no one person is higher than any institution and so must conform. Demola Olarewaju safely falls into the latter group and he cannot countenance Hameed’s ego.
Here’s why:
Oya, Baba, talk your own.
Reaction:
All I'm saying, y'all hurry up and reform PDP internally, so we have more options cos APC power-drunkenness hurts everyone!
