The Thread: Nigeria is a social, structural and cultural scam

Venting seems to be all Nigerians are doing (and can do) these days, as well as rethinking their patriotism to the green, white and green. These are bleak times, what with the government assaulting its citizens with taxes wherever they can find it, because government must raise money somehow, anyhow, and Nigerians must pay for all the billions that skipped out of the country during the oil boom years now that Nigeria is now in a recession.

So from increase in electricity bills to increase in fuel prices, from VAT on passport to tax on calls and toll gates, and the most recent (although currently suspended) hike on data, Nigerians are paying for a whole darn lot. And it’s just not fair.  One would think the very fact of the country’s recession would cause the people in Aso rock to put their thinking caps on and figure out ways to ease the burden of Nigerians, but no. Well, seeing as President Buhari and his team have found creative ways of making our lives harder, it’s not surprising to see that some people no longer want to pledge allegiance to Nigeria.
