TICKER: Almost forgone: Woman forgets to claim $23m winning lottery ticket

We can assure you at least one girl in the world will have the Christmas of a lifetime after helping her mom claim a “forgotten” $23 million lottery ticket. A woman in Palmdale, California, purchased a lottery ticket in May of this year and never checked it.

The city’s local newspaper published a photograph of the lotto winner that was taken from a security camera at a liquor store. The woman’s daughter saw the picture in the local newspaper and immediately texted her mother, asking if she’d misplaced her winning lottery ticket. Fortunately, the woman was able to find the lottery ticket in her car and cash in on her millions. Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso commented on the bizarre occurrence saying, “She just never checked the ticket … Her daughter took a picture of her photo in the newspaper and sent it to her mother, she went to her car and found the ticket.”

The woman was just weeks away from losing out on her millions. According to reporters, the woman had until November 26 to claim her prize. If the winning ticket was never cashed in, the money would have gone to California schools.
