TICKER: Anti-gay US fast food chain bows to pressure, agrees to stop funding anti-gay groups

The right wing  just learned what it’s like to lose a fight to the LGBT community. Chick-fil-A stirred a great deal of controversy once it was disclosed that the chicken chain donates money to organizations that lobby against LGBT rights.

Chick-fil-A came under pressure from the LGBT community to cease support for anti-gay organizations, but was supported by the right wing, many of whom came out in mass numbers to support the company’s stance with Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.

Now, however, it seems that all the work of the right wing to support Chick-fil-A may have been for nothing since the company has reversed its stance. Chick-fil-A still supports Christian values, but it has reportedly agreed to stop supporting anti-gay organizations.

The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) has released a press release confirming  to Chicago Alderman Proco “Joe” Moreno that its nonprofit, the WinShape Foundation, will no longer donate money to anti-gay organizations.

“The WinShape Foundations [sic] is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas,” the letter stated. The company also made it clear, according to TCRA, that groups like Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage would cut off from future funding.

And now that Chick-fil-A has reversed its position, Moreno has agreed to drop his efforts to block Chick-fil-A from opening a new restaurant in Chicago’s Northwest Side ward.
