TICKER: Is discriminating against gay people the same as racism? Join the debate

Phil Snider of Brentwood Christian Church surprised fellow Christians at a city council meeting when he suggested that Black segregation is like ‘Gay’ discrimination. The pastor was speaking in defense of Gay people’s rights.

Since then, the question of whether discrimination against Gay people is the same as racism against Black people is coming back up.

Some reason that discrimination is discrimination regardless of who it is targeting and others say that Gay people have the choice to hide their orientation while people of color can not hide their brown skin.

We asked the question, “Is it fair to say that discrimination against Gay people is the same as discrimination against Black people?”  on our Facebook page  and the responses are as follows: ( Feel free to respond to the question yourself.)

“No, a Gay person has made the choice to be so. God created A Black man as such, he had no choice. Either way there should be no discrimination against either, God will settle all scores.”

“YES!!!”

“lmao no”

“Yes I would say it’s very similar.”

“Absolutely not! No correlation whatsoever! Were any of them tortured, murdered, hung and raped for 400 years? h**l No. Next.”

“Def similar but until I read about gay chromosome I can’t totally agree”

“No”

“Close enough. Discrimination is discrimination.”

“Its fair to say discrimination is discrimination and neither should be tolerated! No mans struggle can be measured as worse than another’s. Everyone copes differently”

“Nope”

“Nope. You cannot tell if someone is gay just by looking at them. Nobody should be discriminated against, but why does our pain always get compared? Does the fact that we have not gotten reparations like some other groups–get compared?”

“Discrimination is equal towards anyone. My personal views are I have been alive 26yrs and worked my a*s off. Not once have I agreed with slavery or discrimination. To say one person is less than another is what we are saying if we hold discrimination against one group as more intolerable than another. We as people need to remember the past but let go of it to finally become equal. I am an American that is my nationality and human is my race not white. We have to stop separating ourselves by ethnicity in order to finally become one.”

“No no no! And give back the rainbow too, people always riding our coat tail or using us for somthing,we came up with red velvet, they took it… they way we dress ,hair styles, man they tryin to water us down…”

“why are Black people so oblivious to the fact that other ppl are victimized and oppressed? Civil rights are not just for us, you know?”

“How do you expect to be treated when you’re not following GOD rules …No!!!”

“No. When a gay person walks in the room, I don’t know they are gay unless they tell or show me. AA’s don’t have that option.”

“Bull!!!!! Noooooooo!!!!!!! How do you equate a s****l act to race? I discriminate against ignorance, you Godless people pushing freakish behaviors and a Godless existence and society with no morals”

  1. When you are black that is God choose to make you so but on the hand being Gay is a choice people make. If any Gay person complains about being discriminated is because they deserve it, if to say his parents where gay will that asshole have existed?

  2. Until we realize as a people that homosexuality is an anti-social behaviour that is against procreation and a threat to humanity, till then will the talk about gay rights be squashed. It is not discrimination but maintaining order.

  3. there can not be a debate about homosexuality if religion was removed out of the question !! discrimination in any form can not be acceptable in a humane community !!

  4. It's very stupid comparing Black segregation/discrimination with gay's. Did Black's make themselves so? The answer is No!, But did gay's, YES, they did. Can a man hide his skin colour? No!, Can gays do? Yes. Is being Black a sin? No. Is gay acceptable to God? No.
