TICKER: Now is the best time to ditch your iPhone 4

The new iPhone 5 is expected to be released by Apple in the near future, and it’s creating a frenzy of sell-off activity for the old iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.  This might be for good reason.  Some are saying that once the iPhone 5 is released and announced, there won’t be much of a market for your old phones and gadgets, leading you to have a pretty worthless device on your hands.

September 12 is the expected release date, so you might want to get into action right now.

One thing you can do is sell your phone back to Apple.  The company’s Reuse and Recycle (R&R) program has gotten great reviews from those who have used it.  You can learn more about it on the company’s website, but Apple can tell you your phone’s approximate value based on its condition.  They are offering as much as $345 for a 64GB iPhone 4S in excellent condition.    An iPhone 4 in decent condition can get you at least $105.

You can also sell your phone to a third party, which might be better, since they will pay you with cash, not a gift card (Apple won’t give you cash).  The market price for a strong iPhone 4S is about $351. You can also take your phone to any Target and get a gift card from that company as well.

The best prices out are coming from eBay, where you can get $350 to $500 for a 64 GB iPhone 4S, depending on the condition.
