TICKER: Pastor Bakare predicts a Mimiko victory in Ondo governorship election

The Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly and convener of Save Nigeria Group, SNG, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that Dr Rahman Olusegun Mimiko, will win the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state, southwest Nigeria. The election is billed for 20 October and it was not clear if the controversial and political pastor was reading from the crystal ball.

The Pastor gave the prediction at a press briefing in his church this afternoon, added that God who preserved n Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, controlled Lagos state, from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, hurricane which swept through the entire southwest in 2007, will also preserve Labour Party, LP, at the polls on 20 October.

“In 2007, the southwest was visited by a powerful hurricane called PDP. The party under President Olusegun Obasanjo, swept almost all the entire southwest because people believed he was he just trying to be limited to the presidential election. But to their chargrin, their states were swept off and we had PDP in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states. They received some through court proceedings, verdict and judgments.

“But God preserved Lagos state in the midst of that hurricane. Through Lagos that was preserved, Ahmed Tinubu who became the leader of ACN, alongside the leadership of the party, began to muster strength that they were able to secure the southwest from the PDP. It was a breathe of fresh air. But same group opened the door to PDP to sweep the polls during the presidential election in 2011. In the midst of all that, God also to teach lessons, preserved a state to be neither ACN nor PDP just as he preserved ACN in Lagos.

“Mimiko will win hands down in Ondo state and nothing would happen. Thereafter, he will muster strength and there will be an alternative party as people would begin to see leadership by living right and not by material acquisition of flying jets over the people that you want to vote for you, without letting us know how you come about the jets when you have little or no money in your pocket when you became the governor of Lagos state,” he said.

Speaking further, he said no destructive means can bring about constructive ends, adding that if trully and indeed as claimed the ACN States want to have economic integration, it should be preceded by an enabling legislation that the Houses of assembly of those states have passed laws empowering their governors to do such.
“For some people to rise up and say they will do it without a law backing, it is like arrogating an authority that you do not have to yourself. Let the people speak first. Am not saying economic integration is evil but they have integrated all the economy into their private pockets already.

“Let’s stop talking like colonial masters. We are practicing a presidential system of government and not a parliamentary system. Integration would happen when we sit down and the laws to that effect are put in motion. The people of a state have the right to determine how their resources are spent and the executive governors cannot on their own commit the resources of their states without an enabling legislation from the representatives of the people. A governor is just one man out of others.”

The election for the governorship seat appears to be a three-horse race, with Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN of the Action Congress and Olusola Oke of the Peoples Democratic Party, also in strong showing in the run up to the polls.
