There won’t be any prosecution of a Washington DC police officer who threatened the life of first lady Michelle Obama. The officer, who has not yet been identified, had his case dismissed by a judge this week and won’t be facing charges. The officer was accused of making remarks toward the first lady that were considered to be a threat to national security, according to the Secret Service.
Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan confirmed the comments made on WTOP’s “Ask the Chief” program by DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier. Lanier says that the issue is now considered to be an “administrative investigation,” within the police department.
D.C. police spokesman Paul Metcalf said that the goal now is to “determine if any department policy or procedures have been violated.”
The DC police department is being mum on any additional details.
When the incident originally took place, the officer was placed on administrative duty. Now, he continues to be employed, but in a “non-contact” capacity. Also, the officer’s police powers have been revoked until the investigation is complete.
