When you’re eight months pregnant and about to get married, you don’t expect that to be the day you take your last breath. That is the tragedy of Vindalee Smith, a 38-year old woman who was stabbed and killed in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn this weekend.
The woman was found in her home with stab wounds to her neck. Her baby shower was planned for Saturday night and her wedding was on Sunday.
“Where is my mom? I want to see my mom!” Her daughter Monique screamed upon arriving home.
“She fell on the floor and couldn’t get up,” a friend of Monique said. “It was so sad. She came for a baby shower and a wedding — but now she has to stay for a funeral.”
Police don’t currently have any suspects and are trying to find a motive. The victim worked as a health care aid for the elderly and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was going to get married at the New Dimension Church in her neighborhood.
“When the church heard of her death, it was unbelievable — everyone was crying, everyone was at a loss,” said Sybil Samuel, a member of the church. “Whoever did this must be the devil. He took the lives of not one but two people.”
