TICKER: Remember Joe the Plumber ? He says troops should stand along the US border with Mexico and “start shooting”

Remember Joe the Plumber? Well, he wasn’t actually a plumber since he wasn’t licensed, more like some random unemployed guy. But he was the guy who asked then candidate Obama a question in 2008, which led to this answer from Obama, “…when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” And of course, that answer from Obama led to cries of socialism from people on the right who don’t understand that all taxation is, by nature, redistributive, meaning the government collects taxes and redistributes those funds to pay for programs, infrastructure, defense, etc.

Anyway, Joe “The Unlicensed” Plumber, whose real name is Samuel Wurzlbacher, is still unemployed and looking for work, so he’s decided to run for Congress. Has he gotten any smarter since his conversation with Obama back in 2008? Don’t bet on it. During a fundraiser for an Arizona State Senate candidate, he told the audience that the way to deal with America’s immigration problem is to “start shooting”:

For years I’ve said, you know, put a damn fence on the border going to Mexico and start shooting. I’m running for Congress and that should be a bad thing to say. But you know what, it’s how I feel…I want my borders protected, I’m very very adamant about that.

See. Still stupid. Someone should tell the unlicensed plumber that murder probably isn’t good immigration policy. Was he smart enough to back away from his comments once they were met with nervous laughter by the crowd? Nope, he pressed on:

I’m running for Congress. How many congressmen or people running for Congress have you heard, put a fence up and start shooting? None? Well you heard it here first. Put troops on the border and start shooting, I bet that solves our immigration problem real quick.

Joe “The Unlicensed” plumber’s comments were met with fierce opposition from his opponent, Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), “Joe the Plumber’s comments have no place in a civil society…He should take back his words and apologize to everyone who respects life, the Constitution and the rule of law.” Something tells me Kaptur’s re-election is pretty certain.
