TICKER: Robbers attack flood rescue workers

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officers on rescue operations and a team of journalists were this morning attacked by a gang of armed robbers along Okene-Auchi road.

According to NEMA spokesman, Yushau Shuaib, the team were on their way to “flooded Fuga in Edo State” when the incident happened.

The Director-General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, was amongst the officials attacked.

“NEMA officers and journalists escaped armed robbery attacked today. At least one person was killed though the dead person was not in our convoy,” Shuaib said, “Local vigilante rescued us after some shooting that lasted for some minutes.”

Meanwhile, Yushau said the DG NEMA and his team would still visit the flood victims and address rescuers on the ground.
