TICKER: Usher discusses drama, infidelity, and crying with Oprah

Oprah Winfrey sat down with superstar Usher Raymond V to discuss his turbulent life over the past year. Raymond has been involved in an on-going, nasty custody battle with his ex-wife Tameka Foster. In addition to his custody battle, he has been hit with rumors of being a drug addict after he broke down crying during a concert in Berlin, Germany; in which the R&B star couldn’t finish the concert because he was overwhelmed with emotion. Finally, he faced the reality of mortality when his 11-year-old stepson was tragically killed in a jet ski incident over the summer.

Winfrey introduces the interview by making it known that Raymond has agreed to speak exclusively with her about personal incidents in his life. “Now, he said that he would talk to me and then he’s never going to talk again about his marriage, the fact that his mother didn’t come to the marriage, the fact that he has gone through three years of a custody battle, now has primary custody of his own children, about breaking down on the stage in Berlin, what really made him cry on the witness stand. He talks about everything, no holds barred,” she said.

Raymond’s mother and former manager, Jonetta Patton, joined her son for certain segments of the interview. In the clip, Winfrey asks her if she regrets having not attended her son’s wedding. Patton’s facial expression appears to be one of an overprotective mother who was concerned for her son’s decision to marry Foster. Winfrey asks Raymond if he was faithful to his ex-wife Foster, and he pauses as if he is uncomfortable with answering the question. Winfrey asked Raymond why he sought primary custody of his two sons and whether or not he believes he has been an absentee father. When she asked him why he broke down on the stage in Berlin, he compassionately replied, ”I felt like I would never perform again.” Winfrey makes Raymond chuckle when she asked him if he makes love to his own music.

The interview is on Oprah Winfrey’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” and is slated to air on OWN on Sunday at 9pm.
