A military court in Nigeria has sentenced 54 soldiers to death after they were found guilty of mutiny.

The soldiers were convicted Wednesday in Abuja on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny.

Four other soldiers were acquitted.

The convicted soldiers, mostly officers involved in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists in Northeast Nigeria, are to die on stakes, by firing squad.

The soldiers, attached to the 7 Division, Nigerian Army in Maiduguri include two Corporals, Cpl, nine Lance Corporals, LCpl and 49 Private soldiers.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2015 general elections, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday named Prof. Yemi Osibajo as his running mate, with a pledge to rescue Nigeria.

Buhari announced the choice of Osibajo at a news conference in Abuja.

He disclosed that the process of selecting the vice presidential candidate was rigorous, meticulous, and objective and involved broad consultations with the party leaders and others outside the party.

Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, speaker Lagos State House of Assembly, has disclosed that he is not tired of working for the state in spite of his loss at the recent governorship primaries.

Ikuforiji, who was defeated in his All Progressives Congress (APC) party primaries, made this known in Lagos on Wednesday during the annual thanksgiving service organised by the House of Assembly fellowship.

According to him, “I am neither tired nor thinking of retirement and I will not relinquish my aim for a greater Lagos.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the thanksgiving service was tagged “Greater Height”.

The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for the 2015 election, Gboyega Isiaka, has described a former Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, as an alien to politics in Ogun State, who is attempting to reap where he did not sow.

He said this on Wednesday in a statement by his campaign organisation, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka Campaign Organisation, in Abeokuta, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent.

Isiaka statement was in reaction to Bankole’s outburst of Tuesday, where he had called the PDP governorship candidate “a fake product of an unauthorised primary election.”

A former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has accused a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Chief Olabode George and the winner of the party’s governorship primary, Jimi Agbaje of manipulating the election to favour the latter.

Obanikoro, in an affidavit he filed with a suit he initiated against the election, alleged that George and Agbaje deliberately disrupted proceedings at the election venue, using thugs and state security officers to achieve their aim.

The defeated governorship aspirant in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/994/2014 is seeking among others, the nullification of election outcome on the ground that the exercise violated the party’s electoral guidelines in many areas, including the production of result in excess of accredited voters.
