Today’s Daily Brief: APC says Olanusi’s removal can’t stand, Boko Haram strikes again in Yobe, Mark faults FG’s court action, and more

The All Progressives Congress on Monday rejected the impeachment of Ondo State Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi, saying the process leading to his removal violated provisions of the impeachment clause in the 1999 Constitution.

The party said the action of the State House of Assembly was in disobedience of a court order which asked all parties to maintain status quo in a suit the deputy governor filed challenging the plot to impeach him.

Senate President, David Mark, on Monday faulted the Federal Government for dragging the National Assembly before the Supreme Court over some sections of the Constitution Amendment Bill.

Federal Government had invoked the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to scuttle the ongoing amendment process of the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly.

The government contended that the National Assembly did not comply with the constitutional procedure of altering the constitution before transmitting it to President Goodluck Jonathan for assent.

Aisha Alhassan, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Taraba state governorship election, has rejected the result of the poll announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference in Jalingo shortly after the announcement of the result, Alhassan described the entire elections process as a “daylight robbery’’ and said the party would challenge the results at the election petition tribunal.

“The combined governorship elections in Taraba were characterised by violence, massive rigging, ballot snatching and abuse of the card readers in substantial parts of the state by the PDP and their allies,” she said.

The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly have advised the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Ebenezer Babatope, to take a rest from politics after the defeat of his party in the last general elections.
They said the elder statesman needed the rest to enable him cope with the rigours of sound thinking to contribute positively to the growth of democracy in Nigeria.
They advised him to take his heart away from the trauma of his new status to avoid a psychological torture inherent in his hate campaign against APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
