A former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, formally declared his intention to contest the 2015 presidential election and warned against any form of rigging by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the 2015 elections.

He also lamented the state of the nation under the administration of the ruling party, saying at no time was it divided as it was now.

With the declaration, Mr. Buhari becomes the second presidential aspirant on the platform of the APC to formally do so.

A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar declared his plan to run for president on the party’s ticket on September 24.

The Peoples Democratic Party is pleased to welcome to the 2015 presidential contest, a former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, who declared his intention today, Wednesday, October 15, 2014.

While we congratulate and wish him well in his ambition, we have noted some distortions and misrepresentation of facts in his speech and consequently wish to put the record straight.

According to General Buhari, Nigeria was generating 4000 megawatts of electricity in 1999 but has today fallen short of that capacity under the PDP.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, was among governorship aspirants who were at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Wednesday to pick governorship forms.

Ihedioha, who said he was aspiring to become the governor of Imo State, said he was confident of winning the party’s ticket at the primary.

Apart from him, a former Governor of the state, Mr. Ikedi Ohakim; Sen. Chris Anyanwu and Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume have also picked their forms for the same position.

The Peoples Democratic Party says its is pleased to welcome to the 2015 presidential contest, the former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who declared his intention on Wednesday in Abuja.

While congratulating and wishing him well in his ambition, the party in a statement signed by its National Publiicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh said it noted what it described as some distortions and misrepresentation of facts in his speech.

Metuh said the party would like to put the record straight.

He said, “According to Buhari, Nigeria was generating 4000 mws of electricity in 1999 but has today fallen short of that capacity under the PDP.

Former Governors of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Chief Segun Oni, on Wednesday commended the outgoing Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for not disappointing them throughout his tenure

The two former Governors joined members of the outgoing State Executive Council at a valedictory session held at the Exco Chamber of the new Government House, Ayoba in Ado Ekiti to give their assessment of the performance of the outgoing Governor.

Adebayo who is the first elected Governor of the state said he was always happy when Governor Fayemi’s strides were lauded by national and international organisations as unprecedented in the State.
