After much anticipation from several quarters, President Goodluck Jonathan has declared his interest in seeking a second term in office by contesting the 2015 presidential election.

He made the declaration at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja on Thursday, 23 October, while also telling the Peoples Democratic Party leaders that he would endeavour to purchase the nomination form of the party before the stipulated deadline.

Jonathan has also set up a presidential declaration committee charged with the responsibility of formulating a formal programme for his declaration.

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has told political office holders in the state not to expect their salaries until he had paid the state workers.

The Governor, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, berated the former administration over its failure to pay workers.

He said the situation had caused the workers untold hardship, adding that the new administration was working tenaciously to source for fund to pay the workers as soon as possible.

In another development, the State Publicity Secretary of Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Oluwawole, has resigned.

The Ekiti Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, has raised the alarm over alleged plot by the Peoples Democratic Party to attack All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the Assembly.

A statement on Thursday issued by his Special Adviser, Media, Wole Olujobi, said the PDP had started mobilising its members from the wards for the attack planned for Friday.

Omirin said he intercepted a message mistakenly sent to a former member of the PDP who had defected to the APC.

The statement said, “This is bringing to the attention of all Nigerians the clandestine plan by members of the PDP in Ekiti State to unleash terror on the members of Ekiti State House of Assembly Friday October 24, 2014.

The All Progressives Congress has said that it is now prepared to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State.

The Chairman of the Delta State Congress Election Committee, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, stated this on Thursday in Asaba, while addressing party members on the party’s election of delegates to the national convention where the presidential candidate will be elected on October 29.

He said, “Don’t forget that Delta State for the past 16 years has been raped and ravaged by the PDP and Enough is Enough.”

Loyalists of embattled Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have embarked on an illegal membership registration exercise throughout the State, the State Chairman of the party has alleged.

In a press statement in Akure on Monday, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi stated that some supporters of the governor have been parading themselves as Chairmen and Secretaries of the PDP across the 203 wards of the state and carrying out the illegal recruitment and distribution of party cards.

Mr. Alabi stressed that the exercise was fake and that the process emanated neither from the National Secretariat nor the State office on Oyemekun Road, Akure.
