Today’s Daily Brief: GEJ prays to God for divine wisdom, Wike promises to develop Ogoni land, Amaechi named Buhari’s campaign DG, and more

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said for every issue he had to take a decision on, multiple suggestions that were most times contradictory, were made available to him.

He said it was therefore important for Nigerians to continue to pray to God to give him wisdom to take the right decisions that would not bring suffering to the people.

Jonathan spoke at the 2014 Christmas Carol organised by the Aso Villa Chapel at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has shifted the deadline for the submission of lists of candidates for the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections from December 25 to December 26, 2014.

The commission, however, declined to comment on the number of political parties, which had submitted or yet to summit the forms bearing the names of their Presidential and National Assembly candidates.

The Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, stated this during an interview with journalists in his office on Thursday evening in Abuja.

The former Minister of State for Education and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, has assured the people of Ogoni that he would embark on massive infrastructural and human development when he assumes office as the governor in 2015.

Wike said on Thursday in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, that the votes from Ogoniland pushed him to victory during the just concluded governorship primary of the state PDP.

He added that the development had set in motion a march towards a developed Rivers State based on the unity of ethnic nationalities.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has named Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, which will drive the party’s efforts to win the 2015 presidential election.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the announcement followed the hugely successful convention at which its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, was democratically elected, and the follow-up successful choice of his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Thursday said that the commemorative centenary notes will be circulated from Friday across the country.

In a statement issued Thursday, the CBN said, “The commemorative N100 banknote unveiled recently by the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, goes into circulation on Friday, December 19, 2014.  Accordingly, all branches of the Bank have been directed to commence issuance of the currency in their respective locations.

The commemorative note will circulate alongside the existing N 100 note.
