Today’s Daily Brief: Orubebe denies defecting to APC, APC drags Gov. Yero to EFCC, and more

The Kaduna state All Progressives Congress Transition Committee ha​s​ dragged the state governor, Ramalan Yero, to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission for asking the state assembly to approve the withdrawal of N2.744 billion Sure-P money to be distributed among the 23 local government of the state and to finance an on-going road project in the state.

Although the proposal was rejected by many members of the state assembly, the APC, however, said the governor was putting pressure on some of the members to approve the disbursement of the money.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has heaped a ton of praises on state governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

According to the APC in the state, Amaechi is the best governor ever had since the creation of the State in 1967.

In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, the party said it concluded on this after studying Amaechi’s performance in office and comparing it with that of his predecessors, as well as his fellow governors across the country.

The Minister of Information, Sen. Patricia Akwashiki, has refuted a report that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will be dissolved on Wednesday.

A national daily (Not The Nation) had reported on Tuesday that Wednesday’s meeting will be the last under President Goodluck Jonathan.

The newspaper had attributed the report to the minister of information.

The minister, however, dismissed the report in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The statement which was signed by the Press Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Joseph Mutah, ‎denied ever telling the newspaper that the President was going to dissolve the council on Wednesday.

A House of Representatives member-elect representing Ayamelum/Oyi federal Constituency in Anambra state, Mr. Gabriel Onyeweife Tuesday, declared that both old and new members had the legal right to contest for the post of speaker of the lower chamber.

Onyeweife who recently attended the induction course organized for National Assembly members-elect held in Abuja said there was no known law that stipulates that only old members of the House of Representatives were eligible to contest for the plum position.

“Once the president-elect, General Muhammadu Bhuhari proclaims the inauguration of the House of Representatives, the clerk conducts the election of the speaker as the presiding officer in line with order 2 Rule 4”.

Godsday Orubebe has reacted to the story of him making plans to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC) saying that the story is false.

Orubebe, who is a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, in a phone interview with Punch on Tuesday, denied the media reports making rounds.

He reportedly stated that he is a proud and committed member of the PDP and he is in talks with President Goodluck Jonathan to re-organize the party.
