Too much money: Rich couple tear down their new home after a small construction error (PHOTOS)

Some couples just don’t care about money at all. So when they found out their house was built too far from the sidewalk, a wealthy Hamptons husband and his wife had the home demolished and rebuilt it from scratch.

Eric and Margaret Friedberg had returned from their vacation waiting to see their new house near the water in the luxurious villa of Southampton.
And it was perfect except for the house was built in the wrong place, leaving no room for a large garden or pool, the builder said.

“There was no patio and pool,” said one worker. “You have to have a pool. That’s why we measure twice and cut once.
“The framing of the first floor was completed and they had begun preparing the second floor and – oops – they realized the mistake and had to take everything down,” said the worker.
Another worker said that construction crews are working double time to correct the error, which will add six weeks to the project.

“This mistake will cost $100,000 to $150,000,” said the worker.

Not only did the new wood structure had to be dismantled, but the newly poured foundation of 45 by 45 feet – made of tons of 10-inch thick concrete and steel rebar – also had to be destroyed, workers said.

It was the second time the Friedbergs used the wrecking ball, since they purchased the property on
Calle Huntting for $2.478 million.

That price included a house of 1,674 square feet that included high ceilings, fireplace, swimming pool and a terrace of brick.

However, that house was demolished to make room for the one that was shot down like a tower of toy bricks.

Margaret Friedberg, a former government prosecutor, said she is not making a federal case out of the blunder. “Mistakes happen. I love my architect and my builder.”
