A three year old girl has died in Jigawa State after a fire burnt down her family’s house yesterday.

Faith Namu died yesterday following an inferno which engulfed her family home in the Takur-Adua environs of Dutse, the state capital.

According to reports, a neighbour, one David Sule, who lives close to the victim’s home, said he heard his neighbour’s children screaming around midnight, and that people living in the area ran out only to see that the Namus’ house was on fire. He said at the time they came out, there was little they could do as the fire had engulfed the entire building.

Sule said the residents of the area brought out members of the family from the building through the window, but that the little girl was already unconscious when she was brought out. He added that she died on the way to the hospital.

The father of the child, Sergeant Jalmet Namu, said that he was on duty when he received a call from one of his neighbours that his house had been gutted by fire. He said three-year-old Faith was at home along with his other children when the incident occurred.

He added that based on the explanation he got, the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident.
