A man in Niger is said to have committed suicide in Minna, the state capital, leaving behind his 5 children and a pregnant wife.
Nwakwa Martins, an electronics dealer, is said to have shot himself in the stomach while his wife was asleep.
The incident occurred at the couple’s home near a popular hotel in the Tunga Minna area of the state.
Leadership reports:
LEADERSHIP gathered that the late businessman who owns a popular electronic shop along the Old Airport, Minna purportedly shot himself in the stomach at about 5:30am.
He was said to have left his pregnant wife in the room around 5am and gone to another room in the house where he shot himself while his wife was deep asleep.
LEADERSHIP gathered that when the woman woke up around 7am and did not see any traces of her husband, she raised the alarm and was informed by neighbours that they heard sounds like gunshots around the deceased’s compound earlier that morning, prompting the woman, in company of the neighbours, to conduct a search around the house, during which she found her husband’s body in a pool of blood in a part of the house.
The late Martins was said to have been taken to the Minna General Hospital where he gave up the ghost.
It was learnt that the neighbours reported the incident at the Tudun Wada Police Division Minna and the DPO CSP Francis Ekanem led a team of policemen to the residence of the deceased where they recovered a pump action rifle the deceased allegedly used to shoot himself at close range.
Confirming the incident, spokesman of the state police command, Oguche Richard said it was suspected that the man committed suicide even though he didn’t leave a dying declaration note.
While noting that police findings at the residence revealed no sign of external attack on the house, he said investigation was on-going to solve the puzzle around the matter.
