Two siblings died in a fire during the weekend in Ejigbo, Lagos.

According to reports, the children 5-year-old Abiba and 3-year-old Lukeman, were burnt to death after the whole room caught fire as a result of a burning candle which ignited the mattress they were sleeping on.

The incident was said to happened on Saturday at about 9 p.m at 1, Anulowapo Street, Orilowo Bus Stop, Ejigbo while the mother of the victims who lit the candle was outside the room following a power outage in the area.

PM News reports:

Valuable items in the room were also burnt before the fire was prevented from spreading to other rooms.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the father of the victim identified as Tunde is the son of the late landlord of the house.

Both children that died were his only offsprings and were pupils of Mayor Comprehensive School, Ejigbo.

According to eyewitness accounts, neighbours saw smoke billowing from the room and alerted the mother of the kids but before she could open the door to rescue the victims, they had been burnt beyond recognition.

When P.M.NEWS visited the scene, the neighbours said the parents of the victims had taken their charred remains for burial and had not returned to the house.

The neighbours expressed shock over what happened and said the children were with their mother outside before they fell asleep and were taken to the room to sleep.

When P.M.NEWS visited Ejigbo Police Station where the matter was reported, the DPO was not around to make a comment.

Sources at the station confirmed the incident and said the police are not investigating the incident because already the corpses have been buried by the family.
