The body of missing Nigerian graduate of New Jersey University has been found in the Delaware River.

22-year-old Ukonne ‘Uyo’ Uyobong was believed to have drowned after jumping into the river without a life jacket while on a rafting trip near Lumberland, N.Y., officials said.

His body was found around 5:45pm on Friday 5 miles downstream from where he had made the fatal jump.

His death appeared to be an accidental drowning and an autopsy will be done Saturday, Hinkes said.

Earlier this week, friends and faculty at NJCU remembered Uyobong for his intellect and playfulness.

“He lit up every room he was in,” classmate Kaleema Lewis said.

Just weeks ago, he was among the graduates receiving their diplomas at the Class of 2014’s commencement ceremony at the Izod Center. He had planned to visit his mother in Nigeria next month.

  1. Let the the Interpol, the Nigeria Police force and the Military intelligence investigate and ensure justice is done on the killing of Uyobong Ukonne, a Nigerian graduate in the United States of America. Uyobong Ukonne who lives with his uncle in the United states had over time become a victim of conspired jealousy, envy and hatred by the family members of his uncle Dr Samuel Ukonne right there in America. We know the very family he lives with are the key actors of this most wicked murder. Why should they announce to the Parents of the boy who are in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria just a few days after news of his graduation that the same boy is now dead under the cover of drowning in a river? We plead with the electronic and print media in Nigeria and their counterparts in America to help unravel the secrecy of this homicide crafty woven to deceive the ignorant. God is watching!
