Another church building falls down, this time in Edo State

A one-storey church building has collapsed in Edo State exactly a week after a guest house within the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) collapsed, killing scores of worshippers.

Reports say the recent building collapse occurred earlier today at Uzama Street, Uzebu quarters in Egor Local Government Area killing at least one person.

According to eyewitnesses, nine people were working in the church but three of them left to purchase some items at the time of the collapse.

Three out of the six remaining were said to have been brought out of the rubble with varying injuries while one was brought out dead.

Two people were still trapped under the collapsed building hours after the unfortunate incident.

The tragedy stirred protests in the area with residents blaming the church authorities for the collapse. They were said to have deployed manual labour in demolishing the church instead of hiring a bulldozer.

A bus belonging to the church was set ablaze, while the youths vandalized the church properties. Officials of the church reportedly ran away after the building came down.

The building served as offices and residential building for the church officials.
