Tragic: Teenager arraigned for shooting a 6-year-old boy to death in Ogun

A teenager in Ogun has been arraigned before a court in the state over allegations that he was responsible for the death of a young child.

Kashi Kaye, 19, was taken before the Magistrate  Court, sitting at the Isabo area of Abeokuta, the state capital, for allegedly causing the death of  Lateef Popoola, a six-year old boy.

According to reports, Kaye, who has been remanded in prison, was fiddling with a loaded dane gun when he tampered with the trigger and released a bullet by mistake leading to the shooting and eventual death of  Popoola.

Vanguard reports:

The accused was reportedly playing with the gun which, unknown to him was loaded but, suddenly tampered with the trigger and accidentally shot dead the boy who was coming back from the school .

Police prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini told the court, yesterday, that the offence was committed on August 17 at about 1 p.m. at Ojebiyi, Odedan, Abeokuta.

According to Ozimini, the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The accused’s plea was not taken by the court on the charge of manslaughter because he was not represented by a counsel.

The Magistrate, Mr. Emanuel Adekunte remanded the accused in Oba Prison till December 6, the next adjournment date.
