Onome Ovwori, more popular as Mr. O is a Nigerian jazz keyboardist based in the US. His album drops in a matter of weeks. In between his hectic studio recordings YNaija up with him to share his twitter experience.

How did you get on Twitter?
I signed up last year via my laptop.

Who would you say is your favourite tweep?
I do have a couple though. I think it changes with time but for now though I’ll say it is @djbuzzle.

Is there any particular tweet you’ll never forget? Tell us about it.
Yeah I do. It’s a tweet (comment) I made about Bode Georges’ thanksgiving service. I practically disagreed with the pomp and fanfare that greeted it and of course some tweeps (who aren’t my followers) went bananas.

Have you had any embarrassing/memorable experience on Twitter? If yes, what happened?
Embarrassing? Yeah I have. It was an incident between me and two bloggers. It was a little misunderstanding about comments on their site. I explained myself and it was resolved. Memorable? Yeah, I was able to connect with a long lost pal of mine who is in Chicago.

What are the downsides of being on Twitter?
Some people use curse words incessantly and for me that’s a turn off. Twitter can also sometimes be addictive which means it can take up all your time if you don’t have self control.

What are the upsides?
It allows you to reach your fans, share ideas, links, music, videos etc. I love Twitter because it limits you to a number of words per tweet, which means it gives the other person an opportunity to also talk while you listen. Unlike Facebook, twitter allows you (to an extent) to talk with/to anyone as long as you put the ‘@’ sign before their handle. Whether they respond though is another question.

Has Twitter enlarged your fan base?
It has definitely enlarged my fan base. This might not necessarily reflect in the number of followers though.

Do you follow back readily? Why?
I follow back. Sometimes readily sometimes on request but I’m quick to unfollow if I don’t like your tweets.

What could possibly make you close your Twitter account?
If it is hacked or probably some reason I don’t know now.
