Twitter Roundup Xtra: A Twitter War between Advisers

It did not even take the full 140-characters to start the great Twitter war on Monday afternoon. In fact, it started innocently enough, just after noon, with a Twitter posting from @MittRomney, the Mitt Romney Twitter account.

More Americans have lost their jobs under@BarackObama than any president in modern history. http://t.co/CyCSpY9M

A few hours later, David Axelrod, the longtime strategist for President Obama, offered up a reply to Mr. Romney.

Mr. Axelrod included a link to a graph on the Obama campaign’s Web site, which cited the Bureau of Labor Statistics to show 22 consecutive months of job growth.

Fifteen minutes later, Eric Fehrnstrom, a top adviser to Mr. Romney, replied to Mr. Axelrod, with a posting that hit back.

.@davidaxelrod Sometimes you don’t need a picture to tell a story. The numbers speak for themselves – 1.7 million jobs lost under Obama.

And then the two men were off, going back and forth in some 140-character rapid-fire debate day trash-talking that finally wound down nearly a dozen Twitter posts and more than two hours later, after Mr. Axelrod referred to Mr. Fehrnstrom as “Dude.”

@davidaxelrod David Axelrod

@EricFehrn Dude, none of my business, but shouldn’t you be in debate prep instead of trying to explain yourself to me?

Mr. Fehrnstrom’s reply:

@EricFehrn Eric Fehrnstrom

@davidaxelrod Haha! Believe it or not, the economy is an issue where we don’t prep Mitt, he preps us.
