Here are the 2 defining moments of the #AMVCA2015

by Chinwe Okafor

The 2015 AMVCAs didn’t disappoint on Saturday night with the likes of  Tina Fey and George Clooney taking center stage in Hollywood.

IK Osakiduwa and co-host Vimbai were in charge for the night and a couple of other things we sort out to be the two best moments of the awards.

Amaka Igwe Honorarium

Late iconic Nollywood writer, producer and director, Amaka Igwe was honored with the 2015 AMVCA for the category of Industry Merit Award and the presentation was touching. Her life legacy was put on full display with her achievements over time in the industry leaving most of us who understood what impact the works of her hands has had in our lives, emotional.

Presenting the award, industry veteran whose breakthrough was as a result of the late icon, Richard Mofe Damijo paid tribute to her with a few words celebrating her as a pioneer contributor to filmmaking in Nigeria.

It was more graceful and a standing ovation when, to receive the award on behalf of his late wife, Charles Igwe said all his wife ever wanted to do was to give her best.

He then thanked everyone for acknowledging that she did give her best.

Blossom Chukwujekwu’s promise to his mother

“Thank you Jesus” were his first words when he got up the stage. It may not sound as unique but what he said after was what made the crowd go ‘aww’ and what put him on this list. The actor explained that he promised his mother that that was the first thing he would say if he wins the award for the category he was nominated for and which he did.

The actor had his breakthrough into the industry with the movie, Flower Girl, and since then it has been non-stop for him. We were certainly surprised but glad he bagged the award for Best Supporting Actor, Knocking on Heaven’s door.
