Two female suicide bombers killed in Borno

Security personnel have killed two female bombers in Mulai, some kilometres from Maiduguri, Borno State.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Victor Isuku confirmed the incident in a statement.

Osuku said no life was lost and no injury was recorded during the incident that happened on Saturday.

He said attackers, who were teenagers, were killed when they tried to enter Maiduguri through Molai General area.

He said, “Yesterday, 11/3/17, at about 2045hrs two female suicide bombers, about 18 years of age, attempted to enter Maiduguri through Umarari in Molai General Area.

“They were sighted by the CivilianJTF and consequently shot dead by security personnel on duty.

“No loss of life or injury was recorded. A police team was mobilised to the scene to render the unexploded improvised explosive device (IED) safe, while normalcy has been restored to the area.”

Spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in North-East, Abdulkadir Ibrahim said the bodies of the suicide bombers have been evacuated.

“When we got the alert on the incident, the NEMA emergency workers in collaboration with other stakeholders moved to the scene and evacuated the bodies,” Ibrahim stated.

It was learnt that there is heavy security presence in Molai at the moment.
