Movies shown on ‘Lifetime’ may have some women believing  that throwing hot oil on a man is an adequate cathartic reaction to whatever ails a relationship, but reacting violently will get you locked up for decades.

A Mississippi woman was sentenced to 20 years in jail after pleading guilty to dousing her husband with hot oil.

From WJTV:

Edna Mae Sanders entered the plea Monday before Hancock County Circuit Judge Larry Bourgeois.

Prosecutors say Sanders poured the oil on 53-year-old Sherman Sanders while he was asleep at their house in Diamondhead on July 27, 2006. He died several days later.

Edna Mae Sanders, who is 52 now, testified at trial that she threw the oil on him after he attacked her and threatened to kill her.

Prosecutors said Sanders poured the grease on her husband, Sherman Sanders,  while he was asleep in their south Mississippi home, but Sanders testified that she threw the oil on her husband when he tried to kill her.  Sherman Sanders contradicted her when he initially told first responders that his wife poured hot oil on him while he was in the bed. He died while in the hospital.

Sanders was convicted in 2008 and sentenced to life in prison but that sentence was overturned during an appeal.
