The “unsuspendable”, the one with “zero time” and final acts “of desperation”| See our top 10 quotes from the past week

There’s no way we are not loving this new order of focus in the country (around the world even). The week before, it was entertainment with Kanye, the Grammys and of course and most importantly, Toke Makinwa’s becoming and everything it dragged in.

This past week, it would appear the universe has been more in tune with the politics of things – in Africa especially! From The Gambia to The Ghana (we had to add ‘The’ there), we watched things “Change”. Words too, Yah thanks!

Just so you never forget, here are the top 10 quotes to remember from the past week:

  1. GhanaDecides:

“We declare Nana Akufo-Addo as President-Elect of our Ghana. God bless Ghana. Thank you. We wish to thank all our partners, staff and volunteers and our political parties for participating and ensuring a successful election.” -The Ghanaian Electoral Commision finally called the results of the Ghana elections in favour of Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party on Friday.

2. President Trump has something to say to CNN’s rediculous & untrue – FAKE NEWS!:

“I have NOTHING to do with The Apprentice except for fact that I conceived it with Mark B & have a big stake in it. Will devote ZERO TIME!” – President-elect, Donald J. Trump lets us in on what he won’t be doing as President as we await news of what he will.

3. Though Yahya Jammeh insists:

‘I will assume office in January 2017″ – With these simple words, President-elect, Adamu Barrow assures Gambians of the Change that they chose while pointedly calling Yahya Jammeh “outgoing president” and “ex-president”.

4. The Unsuspendable Sani:

“I cannot be suspended, I am unsuspendable, if there is any word like that, I remain a member of my party, If you simply feel uncomfortable with my words, all you can do is to simply put some cotton on your ears so that it can block it and if you are not comfortable with seeing me physically, you simply need to use sunglasses.” – Senator Shehu Sani urging Kaduna State Governor to get with the times!

5. When Farida Waziri got pissed:

“If Nuhu is yet to face the reality that the EFCC is a Federal Government agency and not a personal estate of anybody eight years after, I find it compelling to remind him, otherwise, one day he would wake up to blame me for his defeat in the 2011 presidential election and even his pathetic outing in the 2015 governorship election in Adamawa State despite the slush funds deployed to ensure his victory at the polls.” – Farida Waziri, former EFCC boss had a lot to say to her predecessor, Nuhu Ribadu. Apparently. This is in addition to her comments about Nigerian leaders needing psychiatric tests. We don’t know whether to urge her on or let her be.

6. And then between the President and his Emir, we get a revelation on how Nigeria’s economy is being run:

“But even assuming that he was correct. This is a government that has money in excess the amount he mentioned in the Treasury Single Account, TSA. It is just like you, a bank customer operating two accounts, one in the red and the other, well funded to the point that it can at any time wipe the indebtedness on the other. Would any bank manager lose their sleep over this? – An excerpt from President Buhari’s response to the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s critique of his administration’s economic follies and in particular, his warning against the borrowing of $30 billion U.S Dollars.

7. The new seating arrangement Igbo’s need to get on:

“Ndigbo should join APC to enable them to sit where other Nigerians are seated to decide on how to move the nation forward.” – Orji Kalu makes a heartfelt plea to Igbos in Nigeria. Because the President made him a promise.

8. As if in response:

“Anyone speculating about his commitment, his strength, or his role within the party or any doubt at all about whether he is remaining or defecting, is just dreaming.” – A statement by Governor Umahi of Ebonyi State reassuring us of his life long commitment to the People’s Democratic Party reads.

9. Revisiting the issue of race and being an outsider

“The concept of race in America is not just genetic, otherwise the one-drop rule wouldn’t have made sense. It’s cultural.” – Outgoing President of the United States, Barack Obama said in a televised interview with Fareed Zakaria.

10. So are we done with Boko Haram or not:

“This latest attack is obviously an act of desperation, but the Nigerian military will neither be distracted nor relent.” – The President’s swift response to the Adamawa blast. We wonder what to call the most recent attack in Maiduguri.
