Jao confirmed the explosion to the Punch saying, “It is true that there was some kind of explosion in an armoured car near the House of the Governor of Gombe State. It was not a bomb attack.

“There was an accidental discharge, I cannot confirm casualties yet but I understand there were some.”

Jalo, an indigene of the state has close ties to the governor.

Reports from Gombe indicate that there was widespread panic around the area with security personnel quickly mobilized to cordon off the area.
