Update: Seized Russian made aircraft ‘had chopper tucked in it’

There are reports that the Russian made aircraft intercepted at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Saturday afternoon had a an helicopter tucked in it.

The aircraft reportedly had large amount of arms in it and investigations are still going on to ascertain the origin of the aircraft and its cargo.

It is, however, believed that the plane was headed for N’djamena, the capital of Chad.

The Nigerian military reportedly detained all crew members of the plane immediately with a view to interrogating them on the mission of the mystery plane.

Sources in the military described the plane as an Antonov Aircraft – a plane renowned for its ability to operate in harsh climatic conditions and on remote airfields with any kind of surface.

Antonov has built a total of approximately 22,000 aircraft and thousands of planes are currently operating in the former Soviet Union and many developing countries.

Sources indicate that diplomatic means are being utilized to unravel the mission of the aircraft, its origin and destination.
