It was Uti weekend: Exclusive Pictures from all three parties!

Last weekend, there was a three-day buildup of rave events to welcome BBA winner Uti Nwachukwu back to Nigeria. The first was at the airport in Lagos, the second was the official Mnet reception at Rehab, and then finally a no-holds-barred party at Aura on Saturday!

Our reporters were at two of the events and give you the scoop below!

Thursday: The Airport Reception

The celebrated started in South Africa and continued when the new king of reality returned to Nigeria through the South African Airways terminal of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja on Friday by 8pm.

Tens of fans, led by his brother and Gbenro Ajibade of Tinsel had to wait at the ‘E’ arrival terminal for about three hours but the mood was upbeat – despite a gang of security operatives who complained about movement obstruction.

When the man of the moment finally showed up, an ecstatic cry rent the air. Uti lapped it all up, grinning from ear to ear and waving. Unfortunately, his stern-looking bodyguards would not allow him interact too long with his fans as he was quickly whisked away by a flashy convoy. But, hey, they saw him first!

Friday: The Official MNet Reception

In Twitersphere, Monday 18t October started like a normal day. Much later into the day, however, something spectacular occurred. For the second time in the history of the micro blogger, a Nigerian name trended. And no, this time, it was not for obscene embarrassing pictures. A full twenty-four hours before that, this man, Uti Nwachukwu had been named the star winner of the All – Stars Edition of the Big Brother Africa reality TV show bringing home the 200,000dollars prize money.

It was therefore a no-brainer that franchisee of the Big Brother Show in Africa, Mnet, host a homecoming and crowning party for Uti on the 22nd October 2010.

The event which held at the Rehab Club on Ajose Adeogun Victoria Island, was hosted by IK Osakioduwa, who hosted the reality show for thirty weeks. The venue was packed full with guests ranging from the cast of Mnet’s drama series Tinsel, to media executives, fans of Uti and, er, groupies.

The party began at about 11pm when IK took the stage. Characteristically, he again showed why he is such a fabulous master of ceremony. Right after IK’s remarks, musician Eldee took the stage performing his ‘Ota Mi’ off his Is It your money album, perhaps sounding a warning to Uti’s enemies and haters. As he performed Big Boys, welcoming Uti to the league, Banky W took the stage for Lagos Party. Banky W brought up his protégés rapper Skales and singer Wizkid, announcing that the younger Wizkid is now legal. To prove the point, Wizkid implored guests to “holla at me!” if we see him in the club.

The celebration continued with a speech by Mnet Africa’s Managing Director, Mrs Biola Alabi. While appreciating all those who made the show a success, she particularly praised Uti for displaying what she called “the spirit of the true African man”.

The key point of the party was the introduction of Uti to the stage. On stage, he spoke of his many strategic alliances and manoeuvrings in the house. He particularly talked about how he continually pushed Munya to show his “true colours” to Africa, thereby solidifying his win. About Lareto, Uti claims he didn’t even notice there was a bond. Well, at least he admitted his association with Sheila anyway, quickly adding that he loves Nigerian women.

Mo Hits Acts, Dr Sid and K-Switch arrived on stage: Uti’s win made them feel ‘Over the moon’, they claimed! After which, Dr Sid also supervised the champagne popping with his club banger, ‘Pop Champagne’ with Uti, IK and Biola Alabi raising their glass in celebration.

While mean looking security guards escorted Uti into the VIP lounge, the DJ ensured the party remained alive through the night with special mixes from around Africa. As this reporter walk outside the club, I notice the huge number of people (African and Caucasian) denied entry to the invitation-only event. Ah, Uti should get used to this!
