Vandals killed in inferno at NNPC Pipeline

Several pipeline vandals were killed in a fire outbreak at a petroleum pipeline belonging to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, at Ijedodo area of Lagos State.

Some suspected pipeline vandals at around 6pm on Thursday, were reportedly scooping petroleum product into jerry cans when an argument ensued among them.

According to reports, one of them ignited the fire that caused a massive explosion, which set the entire area on fire.

Residents of Ijedodo and Abulado areas who witnessed the incident, called on the authorities to put out the fire.

The South West spokesperson for National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the explosion.

Farinloye stated, “There was pipeline explosion at Ijeododo this evening (Thursday). Vandals were suspected to have broken the pipeline, scooping the product and in the process the pipeline exploded.”
