A month after releasing her first single in eight years, former Spice Girls Mel B is now setting about promoting the song.
And while her track For Once In My Life had a lacklustre chart performance, the 38-year-old singer was certainly on a high on Friday night as she launched a takeover of clubs in West Hollywood.
Living up to her Scary Spice credentials, Mel is seen here dancing on top of the bar in one venue, wearing a thigh-grazing silver mini dress.
But it wasn’t belong before two burly security guards arrived to bring her back down to earth, with one of them carrying the mother-of-three off.
Mel performed her song to a delighted crowd, and even bumped into and posed with a group of drag queens at Eleven Bar And Nightclub, who were decked out in iconic Spice Girls outfits.
After a lairy Friday night in West Hollywood, the singer’s next promotional stop is Australia.
Her latest song failed to chart on the UK Top 40, and only reached No. 30 on the UK Indie Chart when it was released last month.
However, Mel is undeterred and explained on her blog that she released the song without the backing of major music label and through her own company.
She explained: ‘I’ve done everything on my own. I don’t have a label or management team. Usually when you’re releasing a new song, you do 6-8 weeks of promotion.
‘I did it backwards. I released the song first then I did the promotion. I wanted people to hear the song first. Now, I’m going out and promoting.’
Mel filmed her steamy music video on the set where Desperate Housewives used to be filmed.
It was shot in just nine hours – presumably she was trying to keep the budget down – and shows her stripping off and kissing a clone of herself among other antics.
Mel hinted recently of a collaboration with former bandmate Geri Halliwell, 41, who has also stepped back into the spotlight with a new musical offering, Half Of Me; the video was released on Monday.
It will feature on the mother-of-one’s upcoming fourth studio album, while for Mel, her new track will be on her upcoming third solo album.
Letting her hair down: The singer, who recently released a new single for the first time in eight years, was certainly in high spirits during her night on the town
Mel unleashed her album Hot in 2000, following with L.A. State of Mind in 2005.
Lately she also hinted at a possible Spice Girls reunion ‘in the next year or two’ during her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show earlier this month, telling the talk show host: ‘I’m gonna make it happen one day.’
She then laughed about what the other Spice Girls might think of her proclamation, saying ‘They’re gonna kill me for this.’
The Spice Girls reunited twice in 2012.
In June they appeared together at a London press conference promoting Viva Forever: The Musical, a show based on the group’s song catalog.
That show opened Dec. 11, 2012, to scathing reviews and closed seven months later.
In August of that year they performed a medley of their hits Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life at the Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London.
