‘We may take forceful steps’ | Ex-militants protest in Port Harcourt (PHOTOS)

Former Niger Delta militants have protested the non-payment of their wages by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The ex-militants, who protested in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on Wednesday, allege being owed payment for the clearing of water hyacinth along the waterways in the Niger Delta region.

Excel Torimo, who led the protest, was quoted to have said: “NDDC officials have refused to pay us for our work removing Water Hyacinths even though we have already completed our jobs.”

One of the protesting ex-militants reportedly threatened violence if they are not paid their wages by the NDDC.

“For 7 weeks we [the protesters] have been pushed back and forth without receiving our pay, we may take forceful steps as Niger Delta people.”
