Two suspected hoodlums arrested by police officers in Lagos State have maintained that they are not criminals but rather are security officers to some politicians.

The duo, suspected of cultism and armed robbery, were alleged to have been part of the instigators of unrest in Alaba International Market, which incident led to the deaths of 5 people.

According to reports, 28-year-old Olajimoh Sodik, who is one of the suspects was caught in his hideout by the officers and subsequently led them to where his stash of ammunition was hidden

Leadership Newspapers reports:

It was also gathered that armed robbers who disguised as cultists belonging to different cult groups allegedly fought at Lagos, where they killed five people.
A police source said that some people in the area disclosed that hoodlums who identified themselves as either gunmen or assassins terrorised them in the area.

The police source said several cases involving the gangs were transferred from Ojo, Okokomaiko and Ilemba Hausa police stations, to the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja.

After a thorough investigation, Sodik took the police to an armoury at Alaba International Market where the squad recovered guns and ammunition.
Sodik who claimed to be the youth leader in his area claimed that landowners, politicians and traders in the market used his cult group and others to foment trouble and also gain popularity in the area.

Although the suspect debunked the allegation that he was an armed robber, he told the police he was a cultist.

He was arrested with another suspect, Ibrahim Oshilemo, who also claimed to be a cultist.

Sodik said he belonged to a cult group known as the Eiye, adding that he sold television at Alaba International Market.

I want to say it here that I’m not an armed robber. People only use us to grab lands. In some cases, politicians use us to achieve their aims. I usually hide my gun in the ground. I exhumed it when we were going for operation. I have participated in operations only three times. I did not kill anybody. We only fired and injured people.”

His colleague, Oshilemo, 27, claimed that he married six months ago and his wife was three months pregnant.

Oshilemo, who also hails from Lagos State, said he never robbed since he was born. He claimed to be a cultist who was initiated at a party.
