We hear Tom Ikimi is trying to go back to the APC

It is rather rare in saner climes to see politicians of different ideologies defecting from one party to another, but where party ideologies are hardly defined and political leanings are tilted towards the highest bidder, cross carpeting is a common, and seemingly normal occurrence.

According to the grapevine, we hear that former National Vice Chairman, South-South of the APC, Tom Ikimi, may be planning a return to the opposition after he defected to the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), months ago.

Chief Tom Ikimi reportedly met with Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State in the Government House for about 2 hours, and discussed, among other things, the possibility of him returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While political analysts say it would be a bad political move for Ikimi to make a comeback to APC, election trend observers say he may be trying to woo Oshiomole into the fold of the PDP, especially after he was overlooked in the race to be VP candidate of his party.

Donu Kogbara described something that is close to an example of a Nigerian politician..

It says: “At the moment, they(politicians) are like football teams that are essentially similar in outlook and have no plans beyond trying to recruit the most high-profile players. There are no intellectually stimulating and thought-provoking debates about capitalism or socialism or welfarism or free market economics or whatever.”

“All quarrels are personal rather than ideological and there are no sufficiently articulate defences of certain liberal or conservative positions. People jump from one party to another because of personal interests rather than principles.”
