Dubai is the new frontier for many a Westerner seeking wealth and fortune outside their home country. As the money flows, so does the alcohol, which leads to the loosening of inhibitions, and then trouble with the law.
That’s what happened to Rebbeca Blake, 29, and her partner Connor McRedmond, 28. After a night out drinking and partying, Blake and McRedmond got into a cab, started to kiss, and it went downhill from there. The taxi driver alleges he saw the couple having sex in the back of the vehicle and tattled to the police.

The outraged cabbie fetched police, who allegedly arrived to find Rebecca having sex with Irish welder Conor McRedmond. Dubai police, who are carrying out DNA tests, said: “This is still under investigation.”
Rebecca (and McRedmond) faces three years in jail if convicted. She is currently free on bail after friend Rowley Rees Brown, 42, a company manager in Dubai, paid her surety.
McRedmond has also been released on bail and both are laying low. Blake denies the charges and claims she was alone in the taxi.
“It’s all total bull****. I have no idea where these sex allegations have come from. I was arrested for having a bottle of beer in the back of a cab. That is all.”
Now laying low
The Middle Eastern nation has strict public decency laws and in recent years has come down harshly on foreigners seen to be flouting their local laws. In 2008, a couple caught having sex on the beach was found guilty, jailed for 3 months and fined.
