What Would Jesus say to Kim Kardashian? Pastor Ed Young asks some very strange questions

There are a lot of interesting things happening in the world. Some in the church pretend like it’s not happening and choose not to pay attention.  But some pastors are right in the middle of it all, spreading God’s word in unconventional, yet effective ways.   One of those people might be Pastor Ed Young of Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas.  Pastor Young recently spoke with the Christian Post about his new sermon series that has gotten a lot of attention.

The series is titled “What Would Jesus Say to” and then allows you fill in the names of various celebrities, including Katy Perry, Lance Armstrong, Ellen Degeneres, LeBron James, Kim Kardashian, etc. The series has five parts, and it starts early in 2013.

“I’m not slamming any of these celebrities – this is not a ‘slam these celebrities series,’” said Pastor Young.

“I am simply taking certain portions of their lives and I am talking about these things. I don’t know any of these people personally – we think we know people just because we read about them in an article or in a tweet, but only God knows their heart.”

The pastor’s church has over 20,000 members and broadcasts the sermons on the church’s website.  The pastor even did a series where he and his wife stayed on the roof of the church for 24 hours with a live stream on topics related to intimacy.

“One of the reasons why we are so engrossed by the icons of our culture is because we would say to ourselves ‘I would never do that. I would never spend my money this way; I would never travel that way, I would never have friends or date people that way.’ We say these things to feel better about ourselves. These celebrities happen to be on our culture stage – and they are a reflection of who we are,” said Young.

  2. Smart man! Guess it is the Spirrit of God sha. But he's right; we really do need to refocus on the important things and get our priorities straight. Values are seemingly on the verge of extinction & personal gratification is in! We are hurtling towards self-destruction
