A 47-year-old bricklayer in Ondo State might receive a life sentence or worse if found guilty following his arrest on suspicion of poisoning his wife, Mary, 45 because she couldn’t have children, new reports say.

Damilare Olotu was arrested in connection with the death with Mary’s younger brother, Lawrence Omotosho, saying that Olotu and his second wife connived to poison his sister.

Omotosho asked the police to investigate the matter exhaustively adding that his sister had told him that the suspect had threatened to kill her.

According to news sources, Mary, a trader from Kwara State was in a running battle with her husband because she struggled with getting pregnant even though she had a child from a previous relationship.

Sources claim Olotu took a second wife, Kemi, from Igbara Oke area of the state who gave birth to two children. The second wife wanted to move in with the couple at Ibuji, Ifedore council area of the state but Mary had reportedly refused.

Police image maker, Wole Ogodo, said investigation into Mary’s death would continue as the case has been transferred from Igbara Oke to the headquarters in Akure for further investigation, Vanguard reports.
