BREAKING: Wike’s case dismissed by Appeal Court, rerun election ordered in Rivers

Nyesom Wike's fate rests on the ruling of the Supreme Court | YNaija.com

Nyesom Wike‘s bid to dismiss the judgment of the Rivers election petition tribunal sacking him as governor of Rivers state at The Court of Appeal has been dismissed.

The state tribunal in October, had ordered that a fresh gubernatorial election be conducted within 90 days dismissing the election of Wike as Rivers state government.

Wike took to the Court of Appeal to contest the decision of the tribunal stating that he was legitimately elected governor of the state.

He asked the appellate court to set aside the judgment of the tribunal, arguing that‎ the lower court failed to consider the evidence – that a proper election took place in Rivers state on April 11 – tendered before it.

Wike had gone to the Supreme court to contest the jurisdiction of the tribunal that ordered a rerun of the elections and sacked him arguing that such a tribunal should have sat in Rivers and not Abuja.

The Supreme Court has, however, thrown out the suit for lacking in merit, stating that the tribunal was justified to sit in Abuja and give judgement due to security concerns.

The petition to the tribunal was made by Dakuku Peterside, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the April 11 governorship election in Rivers state.
