I will be the first poor man to govern Cross River – Is Senator Ayade trying to pull a GEJ?

Remember the famous “I grew up with no shoes” campaign line of President Goodluck Jonathan?

It earned him a lot of votes back in 2011, when he ran for election as President for the first time. Four years down the line, the jury is still out on his performance.

The incoming Governor of Cross River state, Senator Ben Ayade, is toeing a similar path, the only difference being that, he’s already been elected.

The Cross River governor-elect has pulled the ‘poor-card’ by saying he will be the first son of a poor man to govern the state.

Ayade said his understanding of what it means to be poor will help him improve on the welfare of the people of the state, majority of whom are poor.

He said this on Wednesday, in Calabar while receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commissioner in charge of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States, Thelma Iremiren.

Ayada said he will create a new agenda that is friendly to the people of Cross River State.

“We shall, with this opportunity afforded us by the people, create a new agenda, an agenda that focuses on the poor by making the means of production easy and affordable to move our people forward,” he said.
