Freakshow: Man colludes with mother to kidnap and ‘murder’ uncle (and now they fight for his property)

by Isi Esene

The Police in Enugu State yesterday arrested eight people said to be involved in the attempted kidnap of a businessman, Igwebuike Ezeudu.

One of the arrested suspects was a woman whose son, Tochukwu Ohamara, was reported to be the mastermind of the kidnap. He is currently at large, according to the police.

The arrested woman, Victoria Ohamara is the kidnap victim’s sister.

Ohamara allegedly shot Ezeudu during the failed kidnap attempt necessitating the victim’s prolonged stay in the hospital prompting his sister and her family members to lay claim to his properties thinking he had died as a result of the said attack.

The insensitive scramble for his assets raised suspicions from neighbours who called in the police to look critically into the matter.

Police investigation revealed Victoria Ohamara’s complicity in the kidnap attempt and she was arrested with others who were also believed to have been involved in the alleged crime.

Arrested alongside Victoria Ohamara is her friend, Obinna Amaechi, and others Çasmir Okoroafor, Ohimankpa Ohamara, Ifeanyi Iwunze, Chinonso Ezeudu, Irochi Ohamara and one Anthony Abata a witch doctor.

The spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the arrest saying the suspects have made useful confessions to the police indicating that Tochukwu Ohamara carried out the kidnapping and shot the victim believing that he had died.

All the suspects, according to the police spokesman, are helping the police in their investigations.
