Woman foils Catholic school bomb attack in Abuja

A woman’s vigilance turned out to be the difference between life and death as a bomb was discovered under a mango tree on the premises of St. Alloysius Schools, Area 3, Garki, Abuja.

According to eye-witnesses, the woman became curious on seeing the suspicious package and quickly alerted security man on guard at the church premises.

They decided to invite the police bomb disposal unit who reportedly arrived to defuse the bomb.

According to Sister Philomena Akem, the bomb was strategically positioned under a mango tree near where pupils buy biscuits and other items after school. The school is located on the premises of St. Alloysius Catholic Arch Diocese.

According to the Daily Post, the incident caused a serious panic among parents of students and residents of the area while the men of the bomb disposal unit cordoned of the area to defuse the bomb.

The chairman of the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Dr. James Agbonhese, confirmed the incident to reporters.

He said the PTA and all relevant stakeholders have pro-actively set up a Security Committee with a view to taking adequate measures in strengthening the school’s security apparatus.

The culprits behind the attempted attack remain unknown.
