Woman sentenced to two years in prison for stealing recharge cards, claims hypnotism

Aminat Akiode, a 27-year-old woman has been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for a stealing recharge cards worth N300,000 on May 4 in Adigbe, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Akiode, who was sentenced at a Chief Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, was an employee of Global Communications Investment (GCI) Limited at the time of the offense.

Prosecutor, Mr. Paul Etusi said, “She was entrusted with recharge cards of various communication networks worth N300, 000, which she could not account for.

“The GCI Ltd. alerted the police of the development and after much interrogation, Akiode claimed that she was hypnotised by some people who collected the cards from her.”

According to the Leadership Newspapers, Akiode, through her counsel, Mrs. Titilayo Akinola, pleaded guilty to the offense and asked the chief magistrate, Mr. Ayoadele Ayobolu, to tamper justice with mercy.

Akiode was given an option of a N200,000 fine.
