Woman tries to jump off Third Mainland Bridge with 12 month old baby

A nursing mother and mother of four identified as Halimat Adegoke almost jumped over the Third Mainland bridge to her death with her 12 months old baby yesterday evening but for the intervention of men of the Rapid Response Squad (RSS).

A vigilant cab driver had noticed the strange behavior of the woman and alerted the attention of the RRS men who were riding on routine patrol of the area prompting them to swiftly move to restrain her from taking her life and that of her child by plunging into the lagoon.
The woman revealed during questioning at RRS headquarters that she had walked from Medina Estate in Gbagada to the Third Mainland Bridge where she planned to jump from.
According to her, a voice had been calling out to her to go to the bridge and she decided to listen because the voice was repeated and constant.
Adegoke, who was a student of the University of Lagos before she dropped out, told RRS operatives that she had marital issues which had prompted her to relocate to her parent’s house in Gbagada.
She said before the incidence, she had issues with her husband before relocating to her parent’s house in Gbagada, Lagos.
Adegoke and her baby have been released to family members.
